Dance

Dancers
"Dance is vital, an activity both exhilarating to watch or do. It can speed up your heart rate, it can enliven your being, it can change your life." (Richard Alston CB)

Dance in Oxford has grown considerably over recent years with the strong support of Oxford City Council. The Council's Dance Development Plan underlines its aim to:

  • Increase participation in dance
  • Work with those involved in dance provision to enhance the profile, quality and variety of dance activity in the city
  • Lead, initiate and fundraise for innovative dance-based projects, and ensure access to support and professional development for Oxford-based professional dance artists and companies.

Dancin? Oxford

This annual city-wide celebration of dance is co-ordinated by Oxford City Council's Arts Officer. It provides opportunity for participants to actively engage in high quality dance, through an exciting programme of participatory activity and a performance programme.

It also significantly raises the profile and accessibility of dance, further establishing Oxford as a recognized hub for vibrant dance activity, involving a successful and well co-ordinated partnership working between key organisations in the city. Visit the Dancin' Oxford website for full details.

Oxford Dance Forum's Professional Development Programme

This provides continuing development opportunities for local dance artists through a regular programme of events, at a highly affordable price. It marks an exciting development for dance, on both a local and regional level.

The work is already recognised as an example of good practice in the region, and has inspired several dance agencies across the South East (and beyond) to set up a similar model. For further details visit the Oxford Dance Forum website.

Dance Development Projects for young people

This involves opportunities for young people to actively engage in dance through learning new skills, training and performing.
