How diverse is the ethnicity of Oxford's population?

Oxford is a relatively diverse population in terms of people's ethnicity.  In 2009, 19.6% of the population were estimated to be from black and minority ethnic backgrounds, compared to an England average of 12.5%.  The largest non-white ethnic groups represented are Indian, Pakistani and Black African.

How is the ethnic mix of the population changing?

Oxford's population is becoming increasingly diverse over time.  At the 2001 Census the black and minority ethnic population constituted 12.9% of the population - which is estimated to have risen to 19.6% by 2009.   This is a consequence both of migration and younger age profiles amongst non-white ethnic groups, which means there is a higher birth rate and lower death rate in these populations.
