At the time of writing, arrangements for the counting of City and Parish election ballot papers have not been finalised, but it is anticipated that the counts will all take place overnight immediately following the close of the polls. The information on this will be updated in due course.
The results will be available on our website.
Polling hours on 3 May 2012 will be from 7am until 10pm.
Poll Cards, stating the hours of the poll and the details of the polling station, will be sent to all eligible registered voters by early April. Alternatively, you can find out your polling station using your postcode on our online Polling Station Search.
A poll card for postal voters will be sent to them to confirm that they are registered to receive one and giving other information, including how to change or cancel the arrangement.
Please note that if you already have a postal or proxy voting arrangement in place, it can be changed or cancelled on application received no later than 5 pm on Wednesday 18th April. It CANNOT be changed after that date.
Anyone who is registered to vote at the elections may apply to vote by post.
You can get an application form from our Postal and Proxy Voting page or from the Elections Office at the Town Hall.
Applications have to be received by the Electoral Registration Officer, via the Elections Office, Town Hall, St. Aldate's by no later than 5pm on Wednesday 18 April 2012. Signed applications may be faxed to 01865 252256 or sent as a scanned e-mail attachment to elections@oxford.gov.uk.
Voters may alternatively apply to appoint a proxy to vote on their behalf. Proxy applications must be received by no later than 5pm on Wednesday 25 April 2012. Please note that applications to vote by proxy may have to be supported by a reason (e.g. because of being away on holiday on polling day). This is detailed on the application form. For information and/or an application form, please visit our Postal and Proxy Voting page.
After 5pm on Wednesday 25 April 2012 there is provision for the appointment of a proxy because of unforeseen illness/physical incapacity. Any such applications
(i) can be allowed only if the incapacity occurred after that date and time;
(ii) have to be attested (supported) by a specified person (e.g. a doctor); and
(iii) can be received from then, but no later than 5 pm on polling day, Thursday 3 May 2012. Further guidance is obtainable from the elections office.
Please note that if you already have a postal or proxy voting arrangement in place, it can be changed or cancelled on application received no later than 5pm on Wednesday 18 April 2012. It CANNOT be changed after that date.
For polls on 3 May 2012 it is intended that postal ballot papers will be posted by Monday 23 April 2012. However it cannot be guaranteed that they will be posted then. Although they will be sent first class, there is also no guarantee that they will be delivered the day after they have been posted. Therefore if you are going to be away and the postal papers are due to be sent to your home address you may need to consider changing that arrangement to be on the safe side.
For persons not included in the register of electors, applications for registration need to be received by no later than 5pm on Wednesday 18 April 2012 in order to be able to vote at elections in May. For further information on registering to vote, please visit our Registering to Vote page.
