More information

Home composting is an inexpensive way to help the environment, and at the same time make your own quality organic compost.

Advantages of using compost include:

  • helping your garden plants without the expense and inconvenience of obtaining fertilisers
  • helping sandy soils to retain moisture but can also open up clay soils to help reduce water logging
  • reducing the need for peat, so helps to cut the demand for peat extraction in sensitive areas
  • land filling of organic waste produces methane. Methane has 30 times the global warming potential of carbon dioxide
