Forever Fit - Sports and Physical Activity for people aged 50 and over

Keeping active is important throughout life, particularly as you get older. Taking part in light activity can help you look after your heart and other vital organs, by reducing the likelihood of heart disease, helps to maintain healthy lungs and helps keep your bones and joints healthy, to name but a few.
In addition to improving your physical health, being active can also improve your wellbeing, reduce the feeling of loneliness and is great for meeting new people.
It is recommend that adults undertake at least 30 minutes of moderate exercise daily, however this does not have to be done all in one go and can be broken down into three 10 minute slots, for example.
Moderate exercise should make you feel a little warmer and get your heart beating a little faster, and includes activities such as Yoga, swimming or light gardening.
Remember to consult your doctor before undertaking any new exercise for the first time!
