Oxford in Bloom



Oxford in Bloom 2012 logo

The Oxford in Bloom competition offers local people, schools and businesses the chance to enhance our environment through the imaginative use of:

  • trees
  • shrubs
  • flowers
  • landscaping

Who can enter the competition?

The initiative is not just for the city's best gardeners but welcomes entries from everyone, including:

  • private residences
  • shops and offices
  • schools and colleges
  • factories
  • hotels and guest houses
  • parks
  • pubs
  • garages 

Judging criteria 

A team of judges will visit your entry and award marks across a number of categories:

  1. general impression, colour and impact
  2. cleanliness, tidiness, absence of pests and weeds
  3. quality, choice, height and colour of plants, shrubs, trees
  4. arrangement and design

Prizes from £25 to £100 are awarded to the best entries in different categories including:

  • Most beautiful container (hanging basket, planter etc)
  • Junior Oxford in Bloom - under 16 & school/community group
  • Best large or small commercial display

Sponsorship

If you would like to raise the profile of your local business, why not get involved and either:

  • sponsor a roundabout, flowerbed or dog bin; or
  • sponsor an award at the Oxford in Bloom presentation evening

Coping with Drought

Visit the Royal Horticultural Society website for tips on gardening during a period of drought.

2011 Results

Results were announced at a presentation evening on 15 September 2011.

Over 150 people attended this years presentation evening to celebrate the hard work and dedication shown by this years entrants.

Local TV and radio presenter Wesley Smith hosted the evening while The Lord Mayor of Oxford, Councillor Elise Benjamin presented the certificates, prizes and trophies to the winners.

This years competition was in partnership with the Oxford Mail, Templars Square, Isis Creative Framing and a committee of volunteers.
