Building Control

What does Building Control do?

Building Control ensures the health and safety of people in and around buildings. It protects the public by ensuring the legal requirements for building design and construction are complied with.

What does the law require?

Builders and Developers are required by the Building Regulations and legislation contained in the Building Act 1984 to obtain building control approval. This is an independent check that the Building Regulations have been complied with. Please see the document below for a guide to Building Regulations:

How can I get advice on my project or book an inspection?

Building Control Officers are available Monday to Friday before 10.00am and there is usually an Officer or Technical Administrator around during the day if you need some advice or would like to book a meeting. You can also email queries or book an inspection by contacting us on 01865 249811 or email buildingcontrol@oxford.gov.uk.

Do I need Building Regulations Approval or Planning Permission?

Visit the interactive Interactive House Guide pages of the Planning Portal website for advice on building regulations and planning permission.

You should contact our Planning department to check whether planning permission is required for your development.
